Erice & Surroundings
Erice is the Mountain Bike capital of western Sicily since the sport started developing in the region. Since twenty years local bikers started opening a dense trails network up and down the western face of Erice Mountain.
A brand-new cable way allows riders to reach the starting point of the bike park only in twelve minutes! The cable cars can host up to six passengers and two bikes each. The ride offers the most stunning view in western Sicily.
The Down Hill run on Erice is not extremely technical and fast. It represents an ideal terrain to enhance your riding skills and it is an amazing line for Enduro or Freeride lovers. Several professional riders such as Fabien Barel and Jerome Clementz genuinely appreciated the local terrain. The arrival of the down hill run is only one kilometer far from the closest beach of San Giuliano and the Bite. For XCountry lovers the cable way does not represent an option. Just leave Bite on your MTbike and start your off road trail two kilometers after the begin of the climb (cable way station). Take right in the "Area Forestale" and keep climbing.
Many other options are waiting all level of off-road rides. The area of Cofano Natural Reserve with its scenic costal trail. Mount Sparagio, the highest peak of our province (1100mts a.s.l.). Bosco Scorace Forestry Area. San Vito Lo Capo and its rocky surroundings. Last but not least the demanding but fabulous trail on Marettimo Island.
Send us an info or request. We will be happy to forward you more details about riding options and equipment rentals.
Guests will have plenty of options to walk everyday along some of the oldest and most fascinating Natural Reserves of Sicily. Zingaro Natural Reserve as well as Mount Sparagio, Mount Cofano, Erice, Levanzo and Marettimo Islands provide a dense trails network, well marked and easy to access.
Feel free to tell us which your priorities and preferences. We will recommend the best walk for you. If you are passionate about Bird Watching just ask us the road to reach Trapani Salt Pans Natural Reserve. These wetlands are the perfect nesting area for several species of migrating birds such as: Pink Flamingos, Cormorants, Storks, Herons, between others.
San Vito Lo Capo boasts a Mediterranean climate that lands itself to climbing, especially during winter months.

Most climbing areas can be reached on foot from town and approach varies from five to fifteen minutes. The single-pitch routes range from ten to forty meters in height and the multi-pitch routes, both traditional and sport, are from two hundreds sixty to four hundred meters high on Mount Monaco and Pizzo Monaco respectively.
At the present time there are about eight hundreds fifty sport routes ranging in difficulty from grade 3 to grade 9A. For Bouldering enthusiasts a new-beautiful area of sandstones is currently being developed at Bosco Scorace Forestry Area. Every year since 2009, San Vito Lo Capo hosts the international climbing Festival, an international sport and touristic event, gathering climbers, runners, bikers and kayaker from all over Europe.
